Posters

Creating a poster helps a primary class find the solution to a maths problem.

Pupils at Heather Primary School in Leicestershire are asked to solve a maths problem and put all their working out on a poster. The posters don't have to be pretty as long as they are clear reminders of how the problem was tackled.

This method is backed by research outlined by Philippa Cordingley, director of the Centre for the Use of Research and Evidence in Education.

She explains how creating the posters reinforces the learning and makes it more meaningful while promoting positive group work. This strategy can also be used with secondary pupils and in other problem solving subjects
