This colourful short video makes an ideal Key Stage 2 French lesson starter by following Ecole Plateau Didier pupils taking part in a special parade during carnival time on the Caribbean Island of Martinique.
Giving a KS2 class a sense of the local culture, the local children play the roles of traditional island occupations and they explain the clothes they wear and the roles they represent.
One pupil, Matis, dresses up as a newspaper seller and takes a presenting role, while others dress as cane cutters, ironing ladies and milk sellers.
Shot in Fort de France, Martinique, this video gives opportunities to develop primary pupils' modern language skills and cultural understanding.
