KS3 Citizenship - India: Child Labour 1

February 14, 2014 by Administrator

This is the story of thirteen-year-old Anil, who is one of 40,000 children in India who work all day making glass bangles over a hot flame set up at home.

After his father died Anil was taken out of school to work to help feed his family. In his own words, he desribes how he gets up at 5am every day to melt hundreds of glass bangles into a perfect circle for which he is paid 40p per day. It's uncomfortable work and he can burn himself.

His story is typical of many of the 250 million children involved in child labour around the World.
