Rural Challenges

February 14, 2014 by Administrator

Primary schools in rural Hampshire show how international links with schools in South Africa and Kenya have helped build community cohesion.

During the three year project teacher exchanges have been followed by teaching, learning and curriculum developments. The impact on individual teachers, their schools, and inter-school working has been profound.

An initial focus on addressing stereotypes has enabled these largely mono-ethnic school communities to encounter different cultures and engage with diversity through their international links.

The schools have tracked changes in attitude and found many positive outcomes. Pupils have both more balanced viewpoints and are able to "deal with difference" with greater confidence.

Now they are providing extended services and engagement by forging links with schools representing diverse communities in the UK.

This programme was filmed in association with the British Council.
