Primary Science: Light - How We See Things

February 14, 2014 by Administrator

Discover five different approaches to starting Key Stage 2 science lessons, on the subject of How We See Things, with a question posed at the end of each video to provoke discussion.

The first video tells the story of a man looking for his black dog in a dark wood. How does his torchlight help him find his dog?

Then there's a mini-documentary about a man who is virtually blind. Watch a representation of what he sees and explore why he is unable to see.

The third KS2 lesson starter is a shadowgraph playlet, where the puppeteer uses a light source to dramatic effect, creating shadows to tell a traditional moral fable.

In the fourth, a light show gives a behind-the-scenes look at theatrical moving lights, with coloured beams of light dancing to the music.

And the last short video shows what happens when light is excluded from our eyes. Six children wear blindfolds and have to depend on their other senses when they are led to a table full of weird and wonderful party food.
