A Personal Journey

February 14, 2014 by Administrator

Year 8 pupil Andrew, at Heritage Maths and Computing College in Derbyshire, has been identified as a candidate for a new peer mentoring scheme after notching up 50 negative behaviour points.

Andrew?s parents did not know what to do as disciplinary letters were arriving at home for causing persistent disruption in maths and dance lessons.

Deputy head Andy Knowles paired Year 11 Gareth with Andrew in the project set up for pupils who were finding it hard to access learning, and were the main perpetrators of low level disruption.

The pair worked together to set targets and identify strategies that would help Andrew to stay focused in lessons. Andrew tells his story of becoming the most improved mentee on the scheme as his progress is monitored regularly using the behaviour tracking system.
