At Elmhurst Primary School, parents are encouraged to attend phonics workshops and join shared reading sessions to support their children's reading progress.
The focus is on parents and their role in the school's reading strategy using synthetic phonics.
Deputy headteacher Katherine Roberts leads a workshop for parents to help them understand the letter sounds and the phonics approach to reading.
The attendance is impressive from both male and female family members and they follow an identical structured approach to learning to read as their children do.
This is followed by a reading morning for parents of children in reception and Year 1, that emphasises reading for enjoyment and reading 'real' books.
