Hidden Patterns in Durham Cathedral

February 7, 2014 by Administrator

Hidden patterns in Durham Cathedral's architecture are revealed by mathematican, Steve Humble, in this Key Stage 3 maths video.

Steve examines how a cathedral like Durham was designed by following the master mason's use of practical geometry, symmetry, pattern and proportions.

He then sets mathematical challenges and brain teasers which are linked to some magical number patterns.

The video uses Northern Architecture's Making Architecture Count project for schools.
