Disability Equality - Dealing with Bullying

February 7, 2014 by Administrator

A look at how pupils with disabilities are often victims of bullying and the approach one school has adopted to tackle the problem.

According to a survey conducted by the charity, Whizz-Kidz, half of all disabled pupils said they had been bullied in school.

This video looks at the anti-bulling polices at Ipsley Middle School in Redditch which have been commended by Whizz-Kidz.

The school has provided lunchtime drop-in sessions for pupils who want to talk to one of their peers, while those at extra risk of bullying are assigned mentors.

However, according to Ipsley Middle School, tackling bullying can only be effective by building a culture of equality and ensuring no-one is looked upon as different.
