This KS3 English and black history lesson idea invites students to look at the contribution of black and Asian people in Britain.
Students use a TASC (Thinking Actively in a Social Context) Wheel to design a real campaign for Windrush Day, highlighting the contributions of black and Asian people in Britain in the 20th century.
The campaign must persuade the government to introduce a national bank holiday to recognise the diversity and cultural identity in Britain.
Working in teams of four, the students take on roles as: team leader, designer, script writer and monitor. They present their ideas to the class and receive constructive feedback.
The lesson is designed for Key Stage 3 classes, but can also be used with Key Stage 2 pupils.
