This video on safeguarding, aimed at secondary governors and school leaders, shows one school's unique approach of keeping their students safe by encouraging them to learn about risk.
Gary Lewis, headteacher at Kings Langley Secondary School, believes that the best way to keep his students safe is to give them the opportunity to learn about risk. So, when faced with a real danger they have the resources and understanding to deal with it.
The school encourages the students to become involved in lots of outside activities, including rock climbing, Duke of Edinburgh awards, orienteering and skiing.
However, arranging these outside activities requires thorough planning and paperwork, so the school employs a health and safety officer to insure that proper risks assessments are carried out.
