A profoundly deaf teacher talks about the value of being a good role model to SEN children and her work at a mainstream primary school.
Teacher, Sarah Jeffery, is profoundly deaf and is able to draw on personal experience when teaching other deaf children in a deaf unit at mainstream school, Icknield Primary.
Sarah took a Certificate of Education for teaching the deaf, at the University of Hertfordshire, and now helps small groups of deaf children with their literacy and numeracy skills on a daily basis.
A positive role model for the children, Sarah is able to empathise with the children's needs and help build their confidence. She also talks about the importance of other children in a mainstream classroom relating to those with learning difficulties and disabilities.
