Primary STEM Ambassador Toby Oliver engages KS1/2 pupils with fun science activities relating to construction and bridge building.
Toby is a track engineer for London Underground and part of a team which designs components, such as train buffers, points and crosses for the tube system.
At Normand Croft Community School, science coordinator Maria Chappell and class teacher Emma Bird want hands-on activities relating to the current science curriculum.
Toby get the pupils thinking about the essential structural properties of bridges by helping them create a human bridge.
He also sets small groups the challenge of designing and making a bridge made from straws, and pupils test them to see how strong they are.
