Primary educators demonstrate how they've encouraged dialogue in their KS2 science lessons.
Nicky Waller, an advisory science teacher in Durham, goes through a lesson inspired by the Children Challenge Industry Project, which relates science to real life companies and jobs, for the pupils.
Nicky demonstrates a practical and group discussion based lesson. The pupils role-play real life scientific and administrative roles in a company that produces a cough medicine formula.
He also gives tips on how to organise and optimise the classroom for small group discussion work, as well as how to encouraging the pupils to develop transferable communication and discussion skills.
Finally, award winning science teacher Linda James shows how she has encouraged her pupils to analyse and critically debate, by framing them as science reporters in a lesson that draws on everyday news stories.
