Improving Secondary Schools - Extra Mile: Secondary

February 7, 2014 by Administrator

Launched in 2008, the Extra Mile project, has made good progress in two secondary schools with pupils from low income families.

Designed to close the achievement gap between pupils on free school meals and other students, the Extra Mile project has already succeeded in its aim.

Raynes Park High in Wimbledon, mentor some of their Year 11 pupils, to help them reach their full potential.

Last year, a football coach at the school ran a"Double Club", where students were given literary classes alongside football practice.

At Stopsley High School, Luton, peer mentoring has helped pupils from low income families resolve conflicts.

A specially set up drama group has also been successful with free school meals pupils.
