Two primary schools have achieved higher standards in attainment and behaviour, as a result of the Extra Mile project.
Under the Extra Mile initiative, primary schools are being encouraged to finds ways of improving standards for children from low income families.

At Westborough Primary and Nursery School in Southend, the day finishes at 1:30pm, so that pupils can take part in a brilliant range of after school clubs, to enhance their learning outside of the classroom.
While Thongsley Fields Primary and Nursery school provide a range of family learning classes, for parents from the deprived area of Huntingdon, and also a free breakfast club for the pupils.
