Top schools inspector Clare Gillies visits a primary maths teacher one year after their first meeting, to see if he has continued improving and can teach an outstanding lesson, in this pedagogy and CPD resource.
In February 2009 Clare observed a maths lesson taught by James, who was then in his third year of teaching. She suggested areas for improvement and James took communications coaching and bespoke CPD support in maths teaching, before Clare returned to reassess him.
