Presenter Matthew Tosh looks at where numbers came from and questions some of the mathematical concepts we have come to learn about in maths history.

The origins of algebra, negative numbers and measurements are discussed in this episode. Including the question, why were negative numbers thought to be absurd in the past?

Some of the best known mathematicians in history struggled with some of the maths that is taught in school today and Matthew looks at some of these key mathematical concepts.
