A primary school trials the Families and Schools Together (FAST) programme, to see how links between communities and schools can affect children's welfare and education.
Lynn McDonald who has worked with schools in America for 20 years, brings the FAST programme to Beacon Primary School, located in a challenging Liverpool community, to pilot the programme in the UK.
The school recruits 14 families to take part in the American-style community building programme.
Over seven weeks, the families take part in activities, such as singing and cooking together, and discover what a sense of community feels like.
