Does Class Size Matter?

February 3, 2014 by Administrator

Trying to answer the question "does class size matter?", this whole-school video looks at various conventional and radical approaches to class sizes.

Two teachers swap classes to experience the difference between teaching 18 pupils and 28 pupils, at St John Mosley Common CE Primary School.

Meanwhile, an innovative approach sees a class of 80 students in Year 7 taught in a purpose-built learning centre at John Cabot Academy in Bristol. And English and maths GCSE classes are delivered in double classes of 60 students at Sydney Smith School in Hull.

Head of English at Fulneck Independent School in Leeds, Sue Meadows, outlines the role of class size in her decision to leave state education.

And to add an academic perspective to the debate, Professor of Psychology and Education Peter Blatchford and Deputy Director Professor Dylan William discuss the issue at the Institute of Education.
