The Henry Compton School in west London, shows some of the initiatives it has used to reduce the disproportionate number of exclusions of special educational needs students.
Almost half the students at the school have special educational needs, prompting a range of initiatives to help them.
Deputy head of learning support, Adam Sawyer, runs a nurture group for Year 7 SEN students at serious risk of exclusion, to help their transition into mainstream secondary school.
The also school works closely with its local pupil referral unit to provide extra support to other SEN students, and shows how older students are supported through an in-school mentoring scheme.
