KS3 English: Out of the Classroom into the Theatre

February 3, 2014 by Administrator

Two English teachers are taken to a secret location and challenged to produce an imaginative and exciting Year 7 Shakespeare lesson inspired by objects they are given a box.

Sarah Mark and Lew Rolfe are English teachers at Acland Burghley School in North London. Here they arrive at Shakespeare's Globe theatre, where they are put through their paces by the theatre's "Lively Action" workshop leader, Yolanda Vazquez.

She encourages them to make the most of the spoken word when teaching the works of Shakespeare, and, with the help of objects provided by theatre director Bill Buckhurst and English Professor Richard Schoch, they embark on planning a practical lesson on Romeo and Juliet.
