The USA - Global Citizenship post 9/11

January 27, 2014 by Administrator

This comparative CPD resource for primary and secondary teachers reveals a US school district's pioneering approach to inspiring students to learn about foreign affairs, with innovative global citizenship lessons.

Herricks School District, in New York State, has led the way in changing citizenship practice in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, by integrating a global perspective into almost all subjects and grade levels - from elementary to high school.

From the age of 10 upwards, pupils learn about global politics and the world trade network. Schools teach world languages alongside art, and 15-year-olds use role play to debate African economic policy.
