Two primary schools show how one-to-one sessions as part of a Reading Recovery Programme help pupils who are struggling with literacy.
Focusing on early intervention for KS1 pupils who have difficulty with reading and writing, each one-to-one lesson is uniquely tailored to the pupils' needs, but follows a simple structure that is discernible in all of them.
At Guildford Grove Primary School, Catherine Kell works with her pupil Sky, who is at the beginning of her Reading Recovery programme. She works on one of the first lesson in the programme, called Roaming Around the Known.
At Epsom Downs Primary School, Mary Lawrence works with her pupil Liam who is further into the instructional phase of the programme.
