HLTAs and LSAs support and enrich the learning of students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties at Oakwood School, Bexleyheath.
Oakwood is a small school where many of the students have speech and language problems. The LSAs and HLTAs work to ensure that all pupils leave the school with either GCSEs or a job.
The LSAs are subject specific and conduct in-class assessments. They also offer one-to-one help outside the classroom, and take pupils off-site to take part in alternative curriculum projects, such as motorbike maintenance.
Two HLTAs show how a Social Language Programme which they designed works in practice. The programme, used with Year 7 pupils, aims to show them appropriate ways to behave and communicate, as well as helping with their speech and language.
