See a teaching expert analyse pedagogy, as Joy Jarvis, principal lecturer in education at the University of Hertfordshire, gives a lecture to her PGCE students.
Joy begins by defining pedagogy and explaining that lessons with the same lesson plan will not always be the same, because they're influenced by environment, the social make-up of the class and even the day of the week and the time of day.
Joy gives advice on planning, encouraging trainee teachers to be aware of their pedagogy throughout their careers. As they develop, they need to reassess and adapt the strategies they use so that they continue to be effective teachers.
She encourages the audience to put themselves in their pupils' shoes, analysing their own behaviour and recalling their emotional responses from their own school days.
