Russia - Teaching World War II

January 27, 2014 by Administrator

Two Russian schools, from cities that were German-occupied during the second world war, show how they teach about the conflict and its impact on their country, in this comparative CPD resource for KS3/KS4 history teachers.

More than 20 million Russians lost their lives in 'the great patriotic war', as it is known in Russia, with the traumatic period playing a key role in their study of history today.

The schools show students in the cities of Novgorod and Pskov, visiting local forests in search of the remains of hundreds of thousands of soldiers still unaccounted for, and hearing first-hand accounts from veterans of the war.
