The Marlowe Academy, a stunning new school in a deeply deprived area of Ramsgate, has turned around a legacy of previous failing schools, underachievement, and lack of self-esteem among young adults.
In 2004, the schools were replaced by the brand new academy with a new focus on social and emotional literacy, which was spearheaded by headteacher Ian Johnson.
These changes have seen a marked improvement in trust and respect between pupils and teachers in the school.
The introduction of the new Butterflies transition course, which involves parents as well as students, is another key area where the academy is really making a difference.
