Tackling Gang Culture

Schools are becoming increasingly important hubs of the community, but how can they combat young people's fears and deter them away from gang culture? And are the streets really so dangerous?

As students at Kingsmead School in Hackney often witness violence on the local estate, school staff talk to them about their experiences and discuss any fears they may have. At Kidbrooke Secondary School in south London, they use video projects as a way to express their feelings.

Home Office minister Vernon Coaker says that crime is actually falling, and explains how agencies should work in partnership to achieve a cohesive approach to the problem.

Colin Moorhouse from the Safer School Partnership and Professor Rod Morgan, former chair of the Youth Justice Board, who work closely with young people in schools, discuss the best ways to stop violence escalating.
