Planning the role-play area is an essential starting point for each term's topic and involves the children as much as the teachers. A zoo is the popular choice this term, with a smaller group opting to build a swamp.
Kathryn demonstrates how to use the role-play areas and then observes the children to see their development. Through the ensuing child-initiated play, the pupils demonstrate sustained shared thinking, collaboration and teamwork.
