Enabling Environments

January 27, 2014 by Administrator

An inner-city Early Years unit shows how the enabling environment, themes and principles look in practice. This video for EYFS teachers assesses how the physical and emotional environment can support learning activity.

Oakwood Primary's foundation stage unit in Leeds is typical of many in inner cities, developing a learning environment capable of supporting child-centred play, with input from the children.

The practitioners reflect on their move towards a Reggio approach and the way this fits the requirements of the new EYFS. See also how both the children and practitioners make records of learning across projects.

Professor Christine Pascal from the Centre for Research in Early Childhood then helps to unpack the EYFS document and relate it to some of the children's projects.
