Secondary Behaviour and Attendance - The Role of SEAL

January 27, 2014 by Administrator

The five touchstones of SEAL - self-awareness, empathy, managing feelings, motivation, and social skills - are explored to find out exactly what the social and emotional aspects of learning can actually achieve.

Staff at William Howard School in Cumbria describe how pupil behaviour has improved due to the approach being incorporated across the whole school, and how it can improve the quality of learning.

They also discuss how traditional pupil-inclusive initiatives like School Council have been replaced by a much more high-powered Executive Forum, giving pupils real decision making power.

Registration is enlivened by game-playing using the SEAL approach, and ideas like Thought For The Week and Frustration Circle play out amongst teachers and pupils.
