Maths - Building Relationships Between Pupils and Staff

January 27, 2014 by Administrator

At Greenshaw High in Sutton, maths grades A*-C at GCSE have increased 28 per cent in four years, thanks to compulsory GCSE statistics for all students and new schemes of work.

Team morale is promoted as staff share resources throughout the department, and the students' progress is tracked using a complex computerised data collection system, but teacher Denis Garvey attributes the improved results to a good relationship between students and staff.

The school are particularly interested in students on the C/D borderline, and some are subjected to a scheme which rates students on their motivation, with prizes going to the highest scorers. Higher performing students are also rewarded, receiving a free lunch to celebrate mock GCSE results.
