Leadership in Small Primary Schools - Management

January 21, 2014 by Administrator

Three headteachers from rural Cornwall discuss the common management issues they share due to the size and location of their schools.

At Menheniot Primary, Amanda Reynham has to manage her time carefully. Working as a teaching head, she has a dual responsibility as both class teacher and administrative head of the school, requiring careful prioritising and balancing of tasks each day.

Trenode Primary is in an isolated area. Because of this, headteacher Gerry Sweet finds that taking pupils out on trips is as logistically challenging as it is important for education. We see what happens when the whole school goes swimming together.

Finally, at Braddock Primary, pupils and teachers are away on a residential course. Headteacher Debbie Tregellas demonstrates how she manages her small staff body in the face of this, making full use of her support staff.
