Ailsa Martin, teacher at Bowes Primary School in north London, takes her Year 4 class to Rye Meads RSPB reserve in Hertfordshire. For many of the children, visiting the countryside is a completely new experience.
Caroline Gellor, the reserve's education officer, leads innovative curriculum linked activities including pond dipping and bird watching.
This programme also demonstrates how the out-of-classroom learning transfers back in to the classroom when the class returns to school.
The RSPB provides professional educators at over 40 of their 200 nature reserves in the UK, allowing more than 50,000 school children to enjoy real world learning.
