At Erdington Hall Primary School in Birmingham, Kyane, a Year 4 pupil following an individual behaviour plan and an individual educational plan, is examined during a science lesson on friction.
Kyane is often behind with school work due to regular absence thorough asthma. Despite relating well with his male teacher Mr Khalil, he often finds it difficult to concentrate on the task being set.
The pupils work in groups to investigate friction using model vehicles, ramps and various textured surfaces, measuring the distance each surface allows the vehicle to travel.
Kyane seems engaged for the most part, but finds the team work challenging. He later admits to being occasionally bored, but is able to explain much of the science he has been taught.
