ICT technician Nick Davies takes us on a trip around his workplace at St Ambrose College in Cheshire to explain what makes him successful in his role.
Along with colleague Adam Hunter, Nick is responsible for the smooth running of two computer networks and five IT suites at St Ambrose. As the school has specialist maths and computing status it wholeheartedly embraces this kind of technology, keeping Adam and Nick constantly on their toes.
According to Nick, the stereotype of an ICT technician is, "a monosyllabic geek working away in a dark basement". He, on the other hand strives to be friendly and approachable and is interested in developing a relaxed working relationship with his colleagues. He believes communicating effectively, prioritising tasks and keeping up with emerging technologies are all key to his success.
