Sex Slavery and Human Trafficking

January 21, 2014 by Administrator

In this RSA lecture, actress Emma Thompson and human rights activist Helen Bamber explain the plight of women who are brought into this country as sex slaves, and ask what can be done to help them.

An estimated 400,000 women are trafficked into the UK every year and forced to work as sex slaves. A public art installation Journey was created to expose the different stages of suffering experienced by these women and to raise public awareness of and support for the work of the Helen Bamber Foundation, which helps the victims of sex trafficking.

In this lecture, Emma and Helen explain how the installation came about, explore the broader issues it raises about sex trafficking, and discusses what can be done to help the women involved.
