A look at the Meaningful Work scheme which has had a positive impact on pupil self-esteem and attitudes to learning at Bulphan Primary School in Upminster.
The scheme, introduced as part of the Every Child Matters campaign, encourages children to help teaching staff and support workers by doing jobs around the school in exchange for points.
The scheme demonstrates how children can be introduced to earning and saving, in turn helping them to express themselves and think about their reasons for doing things. It also encourages responsibility and improves the sense of community within a school.
