Special Schools - EBD: Child-Centred Paths

January 9, 2014 by Administrator

Staff at Beormund Special School in Southwark, south east London, use a range of positive strategies to create a supportive environment and help their pupils succeed.

The pupils, who each experience social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, are encouraged to reflect on how their behaviour affects others, using strategies such as "thinking time".

Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope (PATHs) are creative planning tools to develop positive future plans. They explore individual aims and school policies, resulting in the creation of large displays around the school that encourage support for one another.

The pupils speak positively about their school and their futures, reflecting a feeling of inclusion throughout.
