Personalising Progress

January 9, 2014 by Administrator

Can the DfES Stickman model actually help schools deal with under-attainment and personalised learning? Find out as headteachers and staff from two schools give the approach a road test.

Developed by Sue Hackman, chief adviser for School Standards at the DfES, the Stickman approach is designed to help schools shift those pupils who are not reaching national expectations.

Like many schools, Ellen Wilkinson Primary School and Addington High School are both concerned with raising standards and tackling under-attaining pupils. They meet with Hackman to hear her thesis, identifying specific types of under-attainers and tailoring interventions and strategies for each group can raise standards.

Back in their schools, staff test the approach, incorporating it alongside existing tracking methods and a range of more personalised strategies for moving these pupils forward.
