Developed by Sue Hackman, chief adviser for School Standards at the DfES, the Stickman approach is designed to help schools shift those pupils who are not reaching national expectations.
Like many schools, Ellen Wilkinson Primary School and Addington High School are both concerned with raising standards and tackling under-attaining pupils. They meet with Hackman to hear her thesis, identifying specific types of under-attainers and tailoring interventions and strategies for each group can raise standards.
Back in their schools, staff test the approach, incorporating it alongside existing tracking methods and a range of more personalised strategies for moving these pupils forward.
