Two teachers discuss the importance of planning across the Key Stage 3 history curriculum and building variety into the subject.
Chris Culpin, director of the Schools History Project, and teacher Reuben Moore, from Lampton School, have an extended discussion about planning the KS3 history curriculum.
Chris stresses the need to have variety throuout the course, to stop lessons from becoming "samey". He and Reuben then discuss the themes across the three year curriculum.
They agree on the importance of understanding where Year 7 pupils are starting from, and working with primary schools in order to plan for progression. Auditing the KS3 Scheme of Work so that the skills, concepts and understanding pupils need to gain are incorporated and developed across the three years is also discussed.
