The combined Year 5/6 class at Ponsbourne St Mary's Primary School, in Hertfordshire, continue their learning about the Earth in Space.
By recording how shadows change on their playground and using visual representations of the Earth's orbit they have learnt how and why night and day happen.
Teacher Adrienne Bullen takes the children to the Science Learning Centre, at the University of Hertfordshire, to extend their knowledge further. Under the supervision of deputy director Jane Turner, the class is encouraged to think like scientists and investigate answers to questions they have set themselves.
With astronomer Bob Forrest on hand, and specialist equipment like solar scopes and a planetarium, the children can extend their understanding of this complex topic in a fun and engaging way.
