Urban Leadership - The World of Difference

January 9, 2014 by Administrator

In this programme, a headteacher shows how she has transformed a city school in Liverpool.

Jenny Comish loves the vibrancy of city children and the feeling that she is making a real difference to their lives.

When Jenny first worked in Kensington School, Liverpool, it was a respectable area. She returned 15 years later to discover it badly affected by poverty, violence, drugs and poor housing for asylum seekers. Parents had lost heart with the school.

When Jenny became headteacher her first year was a steep learning curve - success didn't come by just being nice and supportive. Her priorities centred on behaviour, making a safe area for children, and constantly adjusting to the needs of her community.

Jenny has turned the primary into a successful flagship school that is a symbol of stability in the community.
