Two Cumbrian teachers have adopted a unique way of teaching the relatively new concept of sustainable development.
Geography teacher Matt Barton and citizenship teacher Martin Ellison, from Dowdales School bring the concept to life by linking the subject into their lessons.
Using a chocolate game they involve the students in exploring the perspectives of different families and communities involved in the cocoa industry, showing the effects of buying a bar of chocolate.
Will this change the students thinking when buying a snack? Will they consider buying fair trade products? Do they realise that it is their generation who will be directly affected if sustainable development is not tackled?
