Year 5 - Problem Solving and Building Confidence

January 9, 2014 by Administrator

Headteacher and maths coordinator Kate Frood puts Year 5 pupils through an intense session of number-based problem solving to develop their confidence in using the mathematical knowledge.

Kate has a great personal enthusiasm for maths, which she communicates, throughout the school in assembly, at lunchtime card schools and in other maths games for pupils.

Once a week she teaches Year 5, putting them through an intense session of number-based problem solving. This helps pupils build on the mathematical knowledge they have and to develop genuine mathematical agility, and to genuinely enjoy maths.

Thanks to Kate and her team, pupils at Eleanor Palmer Primary in north London achieve well above average national test results in maths.
