Erdington Hall School values the role of parents as their children's first teachers and aims to get them on side by providing a rich literacy learning environment.
Research suggests that children make excellent progress with support from home. Erdington Hall School aims to tap into this and build on parents' skills and enthusiasms, particularly when many of their families have English as an additional language.
A range of parents are observed both in the classroom and outside, sharing storytime and writing sessions, attending writing workshops, helping on educational visits, as well as being interviewed.
The programme shows how the school headteacher's policy to involve early years foundation stage parents more closely is paying dividends, helping children to become confident readers, writers, speakers and listeners.
