In 2006 the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) asked teachers what pupils should learn in English lessons in the future, and what skills children need and cultural experiences they should be exposed to.
This whole-school video brings together leading commentators and practitioners to discuss what the future might be for primary and secondary. It aims to encourage and inform debate, calling on viewers to contribute via the QCA website.
The panel is chaired by Bethan Marshall of King's College London, with contributors including senior examiner Adrian Barlow; Barbara Bleiman of the English and Media Centre in London; and teacher and novelist Sabrina Broadbent. Also taking part are children's author Jamila Gavin; Mark Reid from the BFI; and writer and broadcaster Michael Rosen.
The panel discusses creativity and inspiration, inclusion and diversity, considering how these themes interact with new technology, assessment, formal language teaching, set texts and spoken language.
