Juggling with Success

December 13, 2013 by Administrator

This programme is subtitled.

This programme shows how one teacher?s passion and sense of humour inspired her staff and pupils to learn to juggle, transforming school life, building confidence and raising achievement.

Carole Farrar, Headteacher at New Earswick Primary School in York, learned to juggle in front of her pupils and staff to demonstrate the importance of learning new skills. As a result pupils and staff began taking up juggling themselves. Teacher-student relationships improved, detentions plummeted, and pupils became highly involved in their education. Carole now wants the whole school to learn to play musical instruments. Her plan is to form a 250-piece band.

Key points:

  • Showing teachers learning juggling breaks down divisions between staff and students, leading to a wealth of benefits
  • It doesn?t have to be juggling ? any activity that is goal-oriented and encourages teamwork is suitable
  • Student-teacher juggling exercises help difficult students realise they have something in common with teachers
