School to School

December 13, 2013 by Administrator

Networking between schools is the way forward when it comes to finding methods for saving time and effort for teachers. This programme looks at three schemes where schools are already well on the way to achieving a fruitful collaboration.

Icknield High in Luton is piloting the use of video conferencing. In history classes, they use it to access a lesson on World War Two direct from the National Archive. Art and design students discuss techniques with each other across schools and in science classes, they run an inter-school conference involving three schools, all linked up with Dr McPhail - a visiting astrobiologist.

In Cornwall, headteachers Gillian Greenwood and John Vipond, from two schools over 30 miles apart, use a software programme called schoolcentre to share action plans, policy information and ideas for school improvement.

In Birmingham, extra management and teaching support for poor GCSE performers at College High School originate from nearby Hamstead Hall School. Both heads and teachers regularly drive between the two schools, benefiting both staff and students.
